The Country Music Legends That Are Taking The Cannabis Industry By Storm

When you think of country style music, smoking weed is generally not the first thing that comes to mind in today’s day. But once again, stereotypes amass about who does and doesn’t use cannabis and most judgments always seem to come up short.

A couple of big-time country music legends are on their way to becoming legends in the cannabis industry. Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard are both becoming big names in legal cannabis and their names are forces to be reckoned with.

Merle Haggard’s Cannabis Legacy

Sadly, Haggard passed away in April of this year (2016). He was 79 years old. But before he died, he’d already begun building a cannabis empire.

Later in his musical career, Haggard became a huge fan of smoking cannabis. In fact, sources close to him said that he came to rely on Sativa strains to give him the energy and creative focus he needed to keep touring and playing music well into his 70s.

Cannabis became such an important part of Haggard’s life that he and some family members teamed up to start growing it on a 280-acre ranch in California. Together, they started creating a whole line of cannabis products called Merle’s Girls.

Before his death, Haggard planned to bring his goods to the Colorado market. And even though he isn’t here to see his vision come true, his family members are still working to get Merle’s Girls onto dispensary shelves throughout the Colorado state. According to sources, Coloradans can expect to see those products in late 2016.

Willie Nelson: Cannabis Country Star

While Haggard’s involvement with cannabis may need a little bit of an introduction, anybody at all familiar with the cannabis scene already knows about Willie Nelson.

Nelson is one of the most famous weed smokers in the entire world. He’s also been a big time activist speaking out in favor of legalization for decades. And to top it all off, he’s made some big moves into the legal cannabis industry in recent years as well. His cannabis company, Willie’s Reserve, now offers a full line of well-known cannabis products.

Haggard And Nelson Team Up For Cannabis

Late in their careers, Haggard and Nelson even teamed up to voice their support of cannabis benefits and legalization outright. On April 20, 2015, they released a pro-cannabis duet called “It’s All Going to Pot.”

In the video for the song, the two country musicians are shown sharing a joint. Let there be no confusion: Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson have worked hard to bring together the worlds of country music and cannabis. And they’re both leaving behind an incredible legacy of tunes and activism, all covered in a huge cloud of cannabis smoke.
